Daniel's Trip for Dedication of Convento San Antonio

Last week Daniel flew down to Matagalpa for the inaguaration of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal Friary called Convento San Antonio. This is the friary Daniel help design and get started building while we lived in Honduras and Nicaragua from October to the end of December of 2008. He also went down again in January of '09 for three weeks. But since then he had not seen it except for photos now and then. So this was a real treat to be able to go and see the fruit of his labor. He also enjoyed hanging out with the friars, participating is beautiful, reverent Masses and Holy Hours, and getting a little time away from his normal work.
This is his week in photos:

The courtyard and front of the chapel.

What else you see when you enter the courtyard: doors to bodega (storage), porter's office, public restroom.

The "Jesus" rosette stone and bell.

Saturday was the dedication. This is in the courtyard before the Mass.

Mass with the Bishop. There is a special rite for blessing of the altar and church.

Bishop anoints with chrism oil the walls of the chapel in 4 places. A wooden cross was was then put over the places by Fr. Bernard.

Some of the Missioners of Christ came for the dedication. Here Carol Restaine receives the Body of Christ from the Bishop.

The friars from both the friaries in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, and Comayagua, Honduras and Fr. Bernard from New York.

View of the chapel from just inside the door showing the arches separating the narthex from the chapel. It also shows the beautiful wood ceilings and the stone floors.
