The County Fair

This past weekend was our county fair, so with fond memories of my younger days I helped the boys create some rock creatures to enter in the arts and crafts competition. On Thursday we took them and an embroidry I did of St. Augustine's quote -the one I have in the upper right corner- to be entered. We went again on Thursday evening to check if we had won anything, but they weren't finished putting ribbons on the many, many entries by the time we were ready to go.
On Friday morning, the kids' grandmothers joined us for the parade down main street. That evening we headed back out to the fair grounds to check out all the exhibits, from antique tractors and farm marchinery to quilts and homegrown vegetables. Our favorite was the stock show barn...chickens of very rare kind, minature herford cows, pigs, sheep and goats. What a barn!

Maria Victoria enjoys a late night at the country music contest.

The proud winners.

Emmanuel takes an elephant ride. At $2 a ride, the boys only got one a piece, but they were grateful nonetheless.

Sorry, this one you'll have to turn your head, but you'll enjoy a short clip of Juan Pablo coming down the middle slide and loosing it at the bottom. He grinned, "It was scary, but fun."

This is "Mutton Busting." Juan Pablo didn't try it this year, but maybe next. Kids under 75 lbs. -the first 20 that sign up- can try to hold on as tight at possible to the sheep. Quite fun to watch...and the kids doing it seemed to enjoy it much, too. A little taste of rodeo.

How fun!! I need to learn how to embroider. Isabelle really wants to learn and has been trying to teach herself. But she doesn't know any real stitches. She kinda makes up her own.

My goal this year is to start doing more feminine, domestic things like baking, crocheting, sewing and now embroidering. My girls are growing up so fast and want to learn it all.

Beautiful work Michelle!!
