What are we up to?

Well, Daniel is really enjoying his work...it is challenging remodeling and fixing up these old buildings and he's learning a lot. He is working on two buildings. One is the Sisters of the Renewal (the friars' sister order started by Fr. Andrew Apostoli, CFR) new (to them) convent called Our Lady Queen of Angels (OLQA) on 113th St. in Manhattan. It is a four story building next the a church, both of which we just recently aquired by the sisters for their apostolic house. They also have one convent for postulants and one for novices. Thanks be to God, they were outgrowing them. Four sisters have taken up occupancy in this great big building that was once a convent/church offices/meeting and activity rooms/kitchen. They've been working hard just to clean it out and figuring out how they will arrange it for their needs, especially in terms of what sort of ministries they'd like to offer out of it. Daniel is going through the building and finding the leaks, the floor conditions, the electrical, etc. He will have the help of the Friars' novice class (10 or so strapping young men) some days and I think their first project will be to strip the floors (an excellent skill they learning in postulancy).

Daniel's other building is Most Blessed Sacrament Friary in Newark, NJ. This building is incredible...old school monastery of Dominican sisters...when they were moving the buried sisters out of it before the friars could move in, they found one sister totally incorrupt and some others partially. The friars have been there for three years and have done a lot of work on it already. Daniel is planning on drawing the whole building out on Autocad (pray that he can get the trial version he ordered soon and that he can get the real thing donated soon also). With the plans, he will map out the ancient electrical wiring and and then fix it. I think there are some other things there also, but he'd have to give you a detailed report.

Me and the kiddos...

One thing about New York...its a dirty city...a different kind of dirt than Texan country dirt or Honduran dirt. My boys like to play in the dirt, but they never have gotten black like they do here. Our feet are always black...I think its just the soot and pollution of a city that settles everywhere. I hope it doesn't settle too much in our lungs, though there are a lot of asthma-related billboards around.

Tomorrow we are going on the Subway to the Bronx Zoo...Wednesday is Free Day! I'll try to remember to take pictures.

I'm sorry that I'm not able to keep up with all the wonderful blogging ladies and their families, but please know I' m praying for you as well as anyone else who reads this.
