1st International Breadstick Competition

A month or so ago, the Friars received a donation of many, many boxes of these little breadsticks...little slightly sweet cracker-ish sticks. Since the Friars have not found an absolutely brilliant way to make use of them besides making little baggies of them and giving them out whenever possible which still has not made much of a dent in the whole of them, Monica, the creative social butterfly that she is, came up with a fun way to use them and get a party out of it. Last night we had the First International Breadstick Competition at the Friary. Entries must use breadsticks in some form or fashion as long as is edible and can use other ingredients. The main course was hamburgers which, though Monica did put breadsticks in the patties, were not considered an entry as all the rest were desserts. Br. Nathanael cooked up hamburgers, sausage, and veggies on his new invention which Fr. John Anthony likes to call the "Hanging Grill of Babylon." They are thinking of trying to market it. :) Crazy friars!

Click on the next two photos to read the signs Monica made for the event.

The judges had a tough job. Here Frs. Herald and John Anthony taste test the breadstick containing entries.
And the winners are...drumroll please....
3rd Place with the Chocolate Chewies - Juan Pablo and Michelle Hinckley
2nd Place with the Berry Custard - Br. Paul
1st Place with the Pudding Brownie cups - Carol Restaine
All the entries were quite scrumptous and creative, and since this is Daniel's proud wife, I have to tell you that Daniel made a really delightful Lime Bisque. :)

Evans! That's brillant! I'm sure they would have made a really good malt or something. I'll have to try it. Hey, if you talk to Jessica (formerly Watkins, forget what her new married name is), tell her I said "hi." You can email her this blog, too, if you like. Hope you are well.

That's right, her name is Brown...I was going to guess White so at least I knew it was a color. Thanks for letting me know. I'll try to talk to her soon.
